Wednesday in Stockholm

At about 12pm, i took myself off into Stockholm again. I caught the ferry and went to the Vasa Museum. This boat sunk in Stockholm in 1628 15 minutes into it's maiden voyage!!

When it was raised in 1956 it was pretty much in tacked and extremely well preserved. It makes the Mary Rose boat in Portsmouth Historic Dockyard look like a shitty piece of rotten wood in comparison!

After that I had a hot dog - seem to be living on them at the moment!! Then I walked into the old city again and took a turn to a small island where i visited the Modern Art Museum. What a treat! First of all it was free! Secondly, it was good to see some good artists other than the usual boring stuff like Miro and Picasso. Don't get me wrong their work is great but it is everywhere! It was good to see some quality Degas and Duchamp. The pop art was good too; Donald Jutt, Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein. There was also some interesting portraiture of people from all over the world by a famous photographer who recently died - Henri Cartier Bresson. Overall the museum was excellent and I spent a good hour and a half taking it all in - especially this video based on a sex orgy as part of a street scene....the men took a while to leave that dark room!! lol

When I got home Ulri and I had a chat over a cup of tea. We showered and headed down town to meet up with friends. It wasn't too successful and by 9pm I was just hungry. So we had a drink and I ate in a bistro - nothing fancy but it filled a hole. Then we walked into the old town to the Grand Hotel where Ulri used to work. It is the only 5 star in Stockholm and it was lovely. I had a delicious glass of wine there. We checked out the loos and they were really plush! Afterwards, about 12pm I suddenly felt tired and we caught the bus and tube back home.

Anyway..was meant to be an early night and here I am again at 1.30am.

Take care y'all x x x

That seems harsh on the Mary Rose. I thought the MR was a stunning piece or archaelogical history and wondrous to look at.
