last night & Two deep things!
Last night Ulrika came round for dinner. It is rare for us now to see each other and it is going to break my heart when she leaves in 3 weeks. What I am thankful for is technology. The only issue is time. She will be a busy bunny and squeezing me in to her tight schedule will be difficult. Anyway, thanks to Dom's generosity, we had meatballs and sauce for tea. (He brought them down from London. That's the only thing Ikea are good for and seeing as he lives next door it was too good an opportunity to miss!) The meatballs somehow tasted better than usual....probably cause I haven't had them in so long.
It was good to catch up with Ulri, be it a short time. This is almost good practise for when she finally leaves. There was a time when we were together virtually 24/7! I know she is looking forward to going home...hopefully there is someone precious waiting at the airport for her...I really hope this person treats her right and she lets them in. Life is too short to say 'what if'. Just go for it girl!!
In another totally different direction.......
Two things have occured to me this morning and got me thinking. And I'd like people's opinions on this too. By the way, don't ask me where these thoughts come from. I do tend to go off on a tangent of thought sometimes...which is no bad thing. It's the creativity in me bursting to get out!
Firstly, I was thinking, what is the most used phrase in the whole wide world? Is it 'I love you'? Wouldn't it be great if it was? Or is it 'Thankyou', which is also a good thing, but not half as romantic. Any ideas?
Secondly, while listening to my walkman on the way to work, Green Day's song 'Shadow' came up. Now I love this song, and I am particularly prone to good lyrics, especially those that really say something to me - for whatever reason. For me the line 'my shadow's only one that walks beside me' is a very observant line...in fact the whole song's lyrics are bloody fantastic. Does anyone else have a line that has a memorable effect on them one way or another, and if so what is that effect? For me this line implies that really, the only one you can truely be sure of is yourself. I think that is a good thing to believe in. If you can't trust yourself and believe in yourself then what is the point?
Anyway, thought I'd get that out of the way. Would appreciate comments...see y'all.
P.S. I'm really pleased with this blog today. Fancied a change of crit!

I think you could be right. Excuse me is used alot especially in England - the polite nation....actually thinking about it maybe 'I'm sorry' is the most used phrase.

I think the most used phrase is "Hello" or whatever constitutes greetings in any language. Communication only happens when there's more than one person, and the first thing you usually say to anyone is hello. Maybe that's why we all know how to say hello in many different languages - it's one of the first words we learn, and one of the most useful because it starts almost every conversation.
And if I'm talking about a song that means something to me as an individual, it's "Reflection" by Christina Aquilera - the whole song pretty much encapsulates how I feel about my life: "Why must we all conceal what we think, how we feel? Must there be a secret me I'm forced to hide?" To me, the song perfectly captures the sense of longing that I feel to finally break free of the expectations piled upon me by family and society at large, and be free to express who I truly feel I am.

I wish people would use 'we' more than 'I' sometimes. It's good to look after yourself to a point, but we are a world community and that is our future I reckon. And blogging for example is a wonderful start to a greater world community.

Great observation Dom. We are so wrapped up in 'me's' sometimes we forget the bigger picture.

i'll have to think on that favorite line in a song . . . i love music so much that it's really hard to narrow it down.
on a different note, just thinking about being separated from a dear friend. it sucks. but, you two will find your rhythm again and fall into it. even with distance between you and busy schedules to boot . . . i have every faith that with the help of modern technology you'll be fine!
best,
carina
